Director Alex Kurtzman has shared some bits and pieces about the backstory of Ahmanet, whose tomb is discovered by Nick two thousand years after she was buried alive in Egypt. Kurtzman divulges that it all begins with Princess Ahmanet's father promising to make her pharaoh, but he reneges on that promise when his wife delivers a son.

Wrathful Ahmanet then takes revenge, but it doesn't end well since she later spends the next two thousand years in a sarcophagus. Kurtzman says that when Nick finally comes face-to-face with the mummy, Nick is "realizing that he's deeply, and desperately, cursed." Kurtzman adds that Ahmanet is "a woman who wasn't content to be put in her place and wanted something more."

Besides centering on a certain mythical monster, "The Mummy" will tease classic-monster cinematic universe by introducing Dr. Henry Jekyll (Russell Crowe). However, Kurtzman suggests that there won't be any "The Avengers"-ish thing in his movie. "The movie's called 'The Mummy', not 'The Mummy Meets 12 Other Monsters'," Kurtzman says.

"If we create a world that feels interesting and scary, then we will have succeeded in setting up the larger universe," he adds. "The Mummy" marks the first installment of Universal Monster Cinematic Universe. The movie will hit U.S. theaters on June 9. Starring alongside Cruise, Crowe and Boutella in the movie are Jake Johnson, Annabelle Wallis and Courtney B. Vance.
